HECOPAB Strategic Plan 2009-2011




Health Education and Health Promotion Strategy is strengthened to contribute to the improvement of the health of individuals and communities

We plan to:

  •  Train community health workers (CHWs) in health related topics
  • Train teachers in health related topics
  • Train all members of Village Health Councils (VHCs) in environment health and waste management
  • Train traditional birth attendants (TBAs) in safe delivery and expose them to new protocols and guidelines of reproductive health
  • Train 75% of organized groups in community health related topics
  • Train CHWs in Sexual and Reproductive Health (e.g. Sexually Transmitted Infections)
  • Train CHWs in health education methods and health education material development

Surveillance of primary heath care interventions is implemented at local level with support of PHNs, PHIs and CHWs

We plan to:

  • Conduct management of vector breeding sites
  • Conduct management of ARI in children
  • Manage diarrheal diseases
  • Manage skin infections
  • Nutritional assessment of children < 5 years
  • Screen for non communicable disease
  • Report morbidity and mortality via monthly reports (Rash and Fever)
CHWs participate and provide support to MOH and International Medical Missions in the delivery of health services in their villages
We plan to:
  • Coordinate Medical Missions
  • Conduct health education programs in schools
  • Conduct health education sessions to community groups
  • Outpatient care provided by CHWs
  • Provide prenatal and postnatal care to pregnant women
  • CHWs will provide logistical support to mobiles

Primary Care Personnel, including CHWs, are trained in Information, Education and Communication strategies geared towards the prevention and control of disease

We plan to:

  • Develop mass media health educational materials
  • Promote healthy lifestyles through different communication channels
  • Observe special promotional days
  • Community mobilization for participation and resource allocation
  • Clean up campaigns
  • Health Fairs

Environmental Health personnel and CHWs participate effectively in the risk management of disasters

We plan to:

  • Implement strategies for water and Food Safety
  • Conduct post disaster public health activities
  • Prepare and disseminate emergency kit
MOH HECOPAB technical staff participates in the inter-sector planning and implementing of health activities with other stakeholders at national and local level
We plan to:
  • Develop a tobacco control plan legislation
  • Implement National Tobacco Control Plan
  • Provide support to the National Food and Security Commission
  • Refurbish health posts
  • Complement physical resource needs
  • Human resource collaboration with allied NGOs
