Tuberculosis Third Quarter Report 2009

The overall number of TB cases in the country has shown an endemic pattern over the last few years, with oscillating number of cases around a quarterly mean of about 20 to 25 new sputum smear positives. The third quarter of 2009 was no different when compared to the first three months of this year. Between the second and the end of third quarter 2009 there were 26 new TB cases reported, indicating a relative decreased of 17.2% as that compared to the same period in 2008. The male population affected was twice the number of females although no clear explanation can be derived from this. However, no relapse cases were detected in this period.
