Tuberculosis Second Quarter Report 2009

The overall number of TB cases in the country has shown an endemic pattern over the last few years, with an oscillating number of cases being reported in every quarter. In the first quarter of 2009, there were 20 new cases reported, with an additional 13 new cases in the second quarter. Thus in the first six a total of 33 new cases have been reported for the year 2009. In the previous year we had a total of 29 new case for the first semester of 2008. Thus the comparison among the sexes presents no variation, as the males represent almost twice the amount of females that have been diagnosed as smear positive. However, only one relapse case has been reported when compared to the first semester of 2008 where there were 3 cases.
