Nutrition is a critical part of good health and development. Good nutrition helps to build strong immune systems, improve child and maternal health, healthy pregnancies, and provides low risk of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancers.
The purpose of the Nutrition Unit is to develop, integrate and coordinate the Ministry of Health and Wellness National Nutrition Plan in order to address nutrition related problems of the country and improve the overall nutritional status and health of the population.
The Nutrition Unit promotes healthy eating habits and lifestyles to the general public while advising high risk groups on good management and prevention strategies. The Unit is also involved with nutrition monitoring, surveillance policy development in addition to training, information, education and program interventions.
