Under the overall re-organization of the Ministry of Health and Wellness during the period of the Health Sector Reform Project (1999-2003), the Policy and Planning Unit (PPU) and the Project Management Unit (PMU) became the functioning arm of the Ministry of Health and Wellness responsible for services organizational development and Projects Management. The two units jointly became “The Policy, Planning and Project Management Unit.” The major objective of this unit includes the development of protocols, guidelines and strategic planning for the Ministry of Health and Wellness, generation and promotion of evidence-based research, and management of projects.
Our aim is to strengthen the public health system through evidence-based policy and planning in health care issues while supporting a mechanism for sustainable health financing. Through its Project Management arm, this department administrates the processes for the planning, accountability and control of the services for the implementation of health related projects.
The unit in coordination with other Technical Advisors and Regional Management Teams, work in partnership with other stakeholders in identifying the social determinants of health that impact the development of Belize.
