Belize Dental Program

Oral health is an important, although sometimes overlooked, part of overall health.  It includes healthy teeth, gums and mouth and is fundamental to general health and wellbeing.  It enables an individual to speak, eat and socialize without active disease, pain or embarrassment.  It impacts on the quality of life.

The Ministry of Health’s dental health program has made advances in promoting the maintenance of oral health in the schools and the communities with little resources which continue to limit other activities that would allow for a more consistent approach.  We believe that the Strengthening of efforts to promote oral health are crucial for the overall health and wellbeing of the population.

The World Health Organization notes that tooth decay and gum disease are pandemic diseases affecting almost everyone.  The costs and consequences of oral disease – including both monetary and non-monetary costs – are significant.

The Belize Dental Department consist of 10 Government Dental Clinic, 10 Dental Assistants and 10 Dentist and we believe that most oral diseases are preventable or reversible if identified and treated at an early stage.  Interventions to address more permanent situations, such as the loss or breakage of teeth, can still make a significant impact on physical and psychological health. Dentistry is compensated by the smile and confidence returned to our patients.
