Nursing Department

The goal of the nursing department is to strengthen the cadre of nursing staff to promote quality health and wellness services for families and communities. Nursing profession is critical component of the healthcare team as they are responsible for providing services and responding to crisis. Nursing is crosscutting in all areas of the health system. In Belize the healthcare system is comprised of approximately 51.6 % of nurses.  Currently there are 897 nurses registered to practice in Belize of which 66% are professional nurses.  A density of 23.4 per 10,000 populations which is below the required standards of 32 per 10,000 population

Objectives for Nursing

Objectives for Nursing includes increasing the cadre of nurses based on patient nurse ratio, developing and reviewing Nursing Policies, Guidelines and Protocols for quality of care.

The nursing department also strengthen human resources for health management through effective workforce planning and provides for continued nursing education opportunities for all categories of nurses.
